Montgomery, Alabama-Fresh off of the program's first SIAC Baseball Championship, Edward Waters will have to quickly turn their attentions to the 2024 edition of the Black College World Series. Six of the to NCAA Division II and NAIA teams, including Edward Waters will compete for the 2024 crown May 8th-11th at Riverwalk Stadium, home of the Mongomery Biscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Edward Waters has competed in all four editions of the Black College World Series, including winning the title in 2022 and will be the #3 seed in this year's double-elimination tournament. Joining The Tigers in Montgomery this year are #2 seed and 2021 champ Bluefield State, #5 seed Miles, #1 seed and Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Champion Talladega, #4 seed Wiley University, and defending BCWS champion and this year's #6 seed Florida Memorial.Â
The Tigers will look to improve upon last year's showing at last season's BCWS, which saw Edward Waters bow out in the NCAA Division II Bracket Title Game to SIAC foe Albany State.
The Purple & Orange will draw #4 seed Wiley University in their opening round matchup on Wednesday, May 8th at 10:00am EST. While the contest between Edward Waters and Wiley will be the first ever matchup between the two squads, the institutions do share something in common. Current Wiley University President and Jacksonville native Dr. Herman Felton, Jr. is a 2001 graduate of Edward Waters College with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science.
The Tigers blew through last week's Cricket SIAC Baseball Championship with all facets of their game clicking on high cylinders. EWU entered the tournament as the #3 seed and recorded wins over Lane, Spring Hill, and two wins over rival Savannah State, including a 10-5 win in the Championship Round to capture their first SIAC title in program history in just their second full year in the conference.
Due to the Tigers' being in the final year of their three-year transition to the NCAA from the NAIA, EWU was ineligible to compete in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, despite winning the conference title. Savannah State instead will represent the SIAC in the NCAA Tournament this year.
Wiley (28-19) makes their second consecutive appearance in Montgomery and are looking for their first win in the tournament, after dropping both games last season to Paine and Rust. After being a long time member of the Red River Athletic Conference, the Wildcats made the jump to the GCAC and clinched the regular season conference championship, before falling to Talladega in the conference title game.Â
Contests will be streamed live on the Black College NinesÂ
YouTube Channel and the Black College Nines website at
