Four Tigers Named to Black College Nines 2025 Elite Team

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Edward Waters University baseball program continues to make waves on the national HBCU stage, with four Tigers earning spots on the prestigious Black College Nines 2025 Elite Team. The postseason honors highlight the incredible individual seasons and collective impact of EWU's standout roster.

Leading the way was senior designated hitter Torry Jones, who was named to the First Team as a designated hitter, while fellow senior pitcher Alexander Davila earned a Second-Team nod. Pitcher Liam Prepetit and infielder Misael Ramos rounded out the Tiger quartet with well-deserved Third-Team selections.

"These honors reflect the hard work, discipline, and excellence these young men have shown all season," said EWU Head Coach Reginald Johnson II. "To have four players recognized among the top HBCU talents in the country is a tremendous achievement for them and our entire program."

A force in the middle of the lineup, senior Torry Jones put together one of the most dominant offensive seasons in program history. The SIAC Player of the Year and All-SIAC First Team selection slashed .354 at the plate, with 73 hits, 58 runs scored, 59 RBI, and 11 home runs over 53 games. He also drew 36 walks, showcasing elite plate discipline, and was a two-time SIAC Player of the Week. Jones was also selected to play in the Minority Baseball Prospects HBCU All-Star Game and earned a spot on the NCBWA and ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region Second Teams.

Senior right-hander Alex Davila proved to be the Tigers' go-to ace throughout 2025. He finished with an 11-2 record, a 5.05 ERA, and 48 strikeouts over 71.1 innings pitched. Davila's presence on the mound was vital in both regular season and postseason play, where he routinely shut down opposing lineup, holding opponents to .257 batting average. His strong campaign also earned him All-SIAC First Team honors.

Sophomore shortstop Misael Ramos was the definition of clutch for the Tigers in 2025. He batted .324, tallying 56 hits, 54 runs, 45 RBI, seven home runs and 20 stolen bases. A versatile defender and consistent table-setter in the lineup, Ramos collected 57 putouts and led the Tigers with 137 total assists and played a crucial role in the Tigers' postseason push.

Sophomore pitcher Liam Prepetit had a breakout year, emerging as a reliable weapon in the rotation. Prepetit posted a 6-2 record with a 3.90 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 60.0 innings, helping to anchor the Tigers' pitching staff throughout the spring. His poise in big-game moments helped secure key conference wins and solidified his reputation as one of the league's rising stars. He earned SIAC Pitcher of the Week honors once during the season.

With four Tigers earning national HBCU honors, the future of Edward Waters baseball is bright — and the 2025 season will be remembered as one where talent, teamwork, and tenacity took center stage.
