Jacksonville, FL., — The Edward Waters men's and women's cross country teams had s strong showing at the Duval 5K XC Challenge Friday evening. UNF hosted the meet and the teams competed at the Hayt Golf Center on campus.
The rainy weather did not provide the best running course for the student-athletes but EWU still performed well in their first meet of the season. The Tigers competed against multiple Division I and Division II programs. Overall the women's team finished 12 of 13 teams and the men's squad were 11th out of 12 teams.
On the women's side, Angela Bitok finished in a team-best time of 22:71.1, good for 65th place. Paris Mckinnon tallied a time of 27:15.4 as she placed 112th in the meet. Nyela Sims, Sammya Brown, De'nayizsa Fance, Tranasia Missick and Abigail Watt all ran strong races for the Lady Tigers.
On the men's side, Samuel Vessat and Jamieer Jackson finished back-to-back in 104th and 105 place with times of 22:46.2 and 22:24.4 respectively. Anthonyo Calvin wasn't far behind clocking a time of 24:52.9. Larry Degrafferead, Amari Mckinnon, Tracy White, Anthony Glover, Maquavion Parks all put together a strong outing for the Tigers.
The Edward Waters cross country teams will return to action next weekend as they travel to Daytona for the Embry-Riddle Cross Country Classic on Saturday, September 21 at the ERAU Cross Country Course.
