Edward Waters Cross Country and Track & Field Teams Volunteer at 2025 Cecil Field Summer Classic

Jacksonville, Fla. — The Edward Waters University men's and women's cross country and track & field teams gave back to the local running community on Friday, August 22, 2025, by volunteering at the Cecil Field Summer Classic in Jacksonville, Fla. The student athletes played an important role in helping ensure the smooth execution of the annual event, which draws competitors from across the region.

Representing Tiger Nation with pride, the student-athletes assisted with several key event operations, including directing parking, tracking official race times, and providing guidance to participants on how to successfully navigate the course. Their efforts not only contributed to the event's success but also showcased the program's ongoing commitment to service, teamwork, and community engagement.

"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for taking the time to give back," said Steven Gonzalez, head coach of the Edward Waters cross country and track & field programs. "Volunteering at events like this helps them stay connected to the sport, learn valuable organizational skills, and represent Edward Waters in a positive light."

The Cecil Field Summer Classic has become one of Northeast Florida's premier cross-country events, attracting runners of all skill levels to compete on a challenging course known for its fast times and scenic layout. The involvement of the Edward Waters cross country teams highlights the program's dedication to not only competing at a high level but also contributing to the growth and success of the sport in the Jacksonville community.

With the 2025 season approaching, the men's and women's cross-country squads are gearing up for an exciting year and will look to carry their volunteer spirit and team-first mentality into competition.
The men's and women's cross country teams will open competition this Friday, August 29 at the UNF Cross Country Invite.
