Women's Outdoor Track and Field Jason Brown, Director of Athletic Media Relations & Marketing

EWU Men's and Women's Track & Field Finish Strong at SSU Orange & Blue Classic

Savannah, GA., -- The Edward Waters men's and women's teams turned in outstanding performances at the Savannah State Orange and Blue Classic on March 29.

The men collected a third-place finish, and the women finished second overall.

Sophomore sprinter Samuel Vessat notched a first-place finish in the 200m event. Freshman distance runner Ian-Kimutai also collected a first-place finish for the Tigers in the 1500m. In total, eight different Tigers recorded top 10 finishes.

Kimutai Elvis placed third in the 1500m event, while Anthonyo Clavin clocked a fifth-place finish in the 110m hurdles and freshman Amari Mckinnon finished seventh overall in the 400m.

A trio of EWU jumpers notched top 10 finishes in the men's triple jump as Dautevian Williams finished fifth while Jahmier Jackson and Taleo Bethel placed seventh and eighth. Bethel also finished sixth in the men's long jump while D. Williams placed tenth and J. Jackson finished 12th.

On the women's side all 12 participants notched top 10 performances highlighted by three first place overall finishes. Abigail Watt clocked a first-place finish in the 400m event, Angela Bitok clocked a first-place finish in the 1500m event and Paris McKinnon finished first in the women's high jump event.

Tranasia Missick and Sammya Brown finished second and third in the women's 400m just behind Watt. Ivyn Jepkosgei also clocked a second-place finish 1500m event. Valarie Brown also collected a second-place finish in the women's high jump just ahead of Sanya Joseph who finished fourth.

 Joseph also notched a third-place finish in the women's 110m hurdles and fourth place finish in the women's javelin. Di-Raphaelle Nelson placed sixth in the women's javelin and Valerie Brown placed seventh.

Briana Morris finished fifth in the women's long jump while also placing third in the triple jump event. Nyela Sims finished just behind Morris in the long jump, placing sixth while also finishing seventh in the 100m event. Trenia Palmer compiled a fifth-place finish in the women's shot put.
