Atlanta, Georgia-The outdoor season for the Edward Waters women's track & field came to an end over the weekend at the 2024 SIAC Track & Field Championships at Morehouse College. The Purple & Orange came away with an eighth place team finish with 96 points, but several members of the squad had incredible individual finishes.
The weekend was led and highlighted by the work of freshman
Angela Bitok who became the first Edward Waters track & field student-athlete to win an individual SIAC Championship. The native of Nairobi, Kenya broke her own school record that she set earlier this season, crossing the finish line in a time of 42:43.85 to earn the title in the women's 10000m. She also won the women's 3000m steeplechase crown in a time of 12:46.67, and took second in the women's 5000m at 20:47.64. For her efforts, she was selected as the SIAC Track Athlete of the Year.
Sophomore
Emmanuella Kone took third place in the women's 100m (12.08), and fourth in the women's 200m (25.08). The EWU 4x100m team finished ninth in the event at 52.21, while the 4x400m team came in eighth at 4:38.96.Â
Field event efforts were led by sophomore
Fatima Ramirez, who got on the podium by placing third in the women's javelin at 33.43m (109' 8"), while sophomore
Sanya Joseph earned a top 10 finish in the heptathlon finishing in eighth place.
