Baseball Selected To Appear At Tyson Foods Black College World Series

Pompano Beach, Florida-The reigning and defending HBCU Baseball National Champion, Edward Waters baseball squad will have an opportunity to defend their title as they have been selected to appear in the 2023 edition of the Tyson Foods Black College World Series. This year's edition will take place May 10th-13th at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama, home of the Montgomery Biscuits, the Double-A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.

The team found out their fate during the Tyson Foods Black College World Series Selection Show on Wednesday evening. For the program, they have appeared in every iteration of the double-elimination tournament since 2021. Edward Waters joins 2021 BCWS champion Bluefield State as well as SIAC rivals Savannah State and Albany State in the NCAA Division II bracket. On the NAIA side, familiar opponents and former GCAC foes Talladega, and Rust College, will appear at the tournament, along with new GCAC member Wiley College, and Paine College, led by former EWU National Championship Head Coach Kerby Marshall, will do battle. The winners of the two brackets will appear in the single-elimination championship game on May 13th.

In their final season as an NAIA member, Edward Waters clinched the 2022 title as the #2 seed, defeating NCAA Division II bracket winner and current SIAC rival Kentucky State 3-2 in the Championship Game. Current EWU graduate assistant coach Keilin Washington was selected as the 2022 BCWS Most Outstanding Player.

Official seeds, brackets, schedule, and ticket information for this year's tournament will be released at a later date.
