Senior Spotlight: Davia Chin

Jacksonville, Florida-Our third installment of the Spring Sports Senior Spotlight Series takes us to the track as we will get to know Davia Chin of the Women's Track & Field program. The Jamaican born, Fort  Lauderdale, Florida raised senior has been a mainstay for the program over her four years as both a sprinter and field event competitor for the Lady Tigers.

Q: Where are you from originally?

A: I'm originally from St. Mary, Jamaica

Q: What made you choose EWC to continue your Track & Field career?

A: I chose to continue my Track & Field career at EWC beause I wanted to stay in the State of Florida so that I could be close to my family.

Q: What's your major and what do you plan to do with your degree after graduation?

A: My major is Elementary Education and after graduation, I plan on becoming a teacher in Duval County.

Q: Did you play any other sports growing up and what made you decide on Track?

A: Growing up my favorite sport was Netball, which is not a popular sport in America. I chose track because it was the second best sport I was good at.

Q: Who were your favorite athletes growing up and why?

A: My favorite athlete growing up was (two-time Olympic Gold Medalist & nine-time World Champion sprinter) Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce because of how humble she is. If anyone shoudl ask me what strength and determination looks like I would show them Shelly-Ann.

Q: What was your favorite memory as a track student-athlete at EWC?

A: My favorite memory as a track student-athlete was qualifying for the NAIA Track & Field National Championships in 2017.

Q: Did you think that your season would end so quickly?

A: I never thought my senior season would end so quickly. I was really looking forward to attending my last GCAC Track & Field Conference Championships.

Q: What songs are on your Quarantine playlist?

A: I don't necessarily have a Quarantine playlist but, I've been listening to Rod Wave, Summer Walker, NBA YoungBoy, Roddy Rich, and Vybz Kartel mostly.

Q: Is there anything that you have learned so far in regards to this global epidemic with COVID-19 and will it cause you to change anything in your life?

A: Throughout this global pandemic, I've learned that things don't always go a planned. Going forward, I will always hope for the best but, be prepared for the worst.

Q: What words of advice do you have for the next group of young ladies that will run track for EWC next season?

A: My advice for the next group of young ladies that will run track at EWC is to work hard both on the track and in the classroom and to also enjoy every minute of it because those four years will go by fast.
