JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Edward Waters University freshman Alaysa Chipunov has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women's Runner of the Week following a championship performance at the Brewton-Parker Invitational.
Chipunov continued an impressive start to her collegiate career by capturing the individual women's 5K championship, crossing the finish line in 20:39.52 to take first place overall.
The freshman set the pace for Edward Waters throughout the race and finished more than a minute ahead of the second-place runner. Her performance also provided a major boost to the Lady Tigers in the team standings.
Behind Chipunov's first-place finish, Edward Waters totaled 65 team points to finish third overall. The Lady Tigers placed three runners inside the top 10, helping EWU secure another strong team showing during its 2026 campaign.
Chipunov's victory highlighted an impressive afternoon for Edward Waters Cross Country, as both the women's and men's teams earned third-place finishes at the meet.
The SIAC weekly recognition adds another achievement to Chipunov's freshman campaign and comes after she delivered her best finish of the season on the conference stage.
Chipunov and the Lady Tigers will return to competition on Saturday, October 10, when Edward Waters travels to compete in the Sand Shark Invitational, hosted by USC Beaufort.
