Edward Waters University Names Frank Brown Inaugural Head Women’s Flag Football Coach

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Edward Waters University Athletics has announced the hiring of Frank Brown as the inaugural head coach of the Lady Tigers' women's flag football program. Brown, a native of Palm Beach County, will make history as the first-ever women's flag football head coach in Edward Waters University history as the program prepares to take the field for its inaugural season in Spring 2027.

Brown brings an accomplished playing career, coaching experience, and championship pedigree to the Edward Waters sidelines. His collegiate career began at Bethune-Cookman University, where he competed from 2014-17 and helped the Wildcats capture three MEAC championships.

During his time at Bethune-Cookman, Brown etched his name into the program's record book on seven occasions. Among his career accomplishments, he is tied for second in school history in receiving touchdowns and earned two All-MEAC selections.

Following his collegiate career, Brown continued his football journey at the professional level. He competed in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Montreal Alouettes in 2019 before joining the DC Defenders of the XFL/UFL in 2020. Brown most recently competed professionally in the Indoor Football League (IFL) during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Brown also brings valuable coaching experience to Edward Waters. He previously served as the Offensive Coordinator at Palm Beach Gardens High School, his former high school, where he remains a celebrated alumnus and member of the school's Hall of Fame.

Now, Brown will turn his attention toward building the foundation of a brand-new program at one of the nation's historic institutions.

"I am excited and honored to become the first head coach at such a historic institution like Edward Waters, expressed Brown. I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and the chance to help set the standard and lay the foundation for something great. This is only the beginning of something special."

Brown's hiring marks an important milestone for Edward Waters Athletics as the University expands its championship opportunities for female student-athletes through the addition of women's flag football.

With his experience competing at the collegiate and professional levels, combined with his background in coaching and deep ties to South Florida football, Brown enters the program's inaugural season prepared to establish a culture centered on discipline, development, competitiveness, and Tiger Pride.

As the newest addition to the Edward Waters Athletics family, Brown will now lead the charge in establishing the identity and foundation of the University's first women's flag football program.
