Edward Waters University Awarded NCAA Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant

Jacksonville, FL., -- Edward Waters University (EWU) has been named a recipient of the NCAA Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant, a notable achievement that underscores its commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within its athletic department by creating new opportunities for underrepresented groups in coaching roles. This grant will be utilized to create a full-time assistant women's soccer coach position, furthering EWU's commitment to increasing ethnic minority and gender representation in coaching roles.

The NCAA Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant provides financial assistance to member schools for the establishment of new, full-time assistant coaching positions in any NCAA-sponsored sport. The program aims to address under representation by fostering opportunities for ethnic minorities and women in athletic coaching roles. Over a three-year period, the grant covers a portion of the coach's salary, wages, and benefits, while requiring institutions to sustain the position for an additional two years.

The grant aligns with EWU's mission to create pathways for underrepresented groups in athletics and reflects its broader commitment to equity and inclusion as part of its transition into full NCAA Division II membership. EWU plans to use this funding to hire a qualified assistant women's soccer coach who will not only contribute to the university's athletic success but also serve as a role model for student-athletes. This initiative complements EWU's strategic efforts to build a diverse and inclusive athletics department while providing student-athletes with access to high-quality coaching and mentorship.

The selected candidate will receive professional development opportunities funded by the grant, ensuring they are equipped with the tools necessary for long-term success in collegiate athletics. This aligns with EWU's focus on fostering leadership and excellence within its athletic programs. By participating in this initiative, EWU joins other Division II institutions in creating meaningful opportunities for underrepresented groups in coaching. This effort not only enhances diversity but also strengthens the overall quality and inclusivity of collegiate sports.

This award comes as Edward Waters University continues to grow and establish itself as a leader in NCAA Division II athletics. Dr. A. Zachary Faison Jr., President of EWU, praised this achievement as a testament to the university's commitment to excellence and progress in athletics.

With this new assistant women's soccer coach position, EWU continues to set an example for other institutions striving to promote diversity and inclusion in collegiate sports. This grant represents not only an investment in EWU's athletic program but also a step toward creating a more equitable future in college athletics.
