Albany, GA., -- Both the Edward Waters men's and women's track and field teams turned in several top 10 performances at the Alice Coachman Invitational hosted by Albany State University.
The men finished 7th out of 11 teams and women placed 8th out of 10 teams.
On the men's side,
Ian Kimutai took first place in the 5000m event with a time of 15:05.36 and tallied a second-place finish in the in a time of 4:04.27.
Samuel Vessat also notched a first overall finish in the 200m event at a time of 21.21.
Athonyo Calvin compiled a 14th place finish in the 110m hurdles and followed with a 15th place finish in the 400m hurdles.
Maquavion Parks also racked up a 17th place finish in the 110m hurdles and a 18th place finish in the 400m hurdles.
Jahmier Jackson placed ninth in the triple jump event with a best leap of 12.91m.
Freshman distance runner
Kimutai Elvis clocked a 14th place finish in the 5000m run and
Taleo Bethel compiled a 13th place finish in the long jump.
The 4x100m relay team of
Taleo Bethel,
Samuel Vessat,
Dauntevian Williams and
Kody Gibbs finished seventh in the event.
On the women's side
Sanya Joseph corralled a couple top 10 finishes as she placed sixth in the 100m hurdles in a time of 15.80. Joseph also finished seventh in the javelin with a toss of 22.26m. DI-Raphaelle Nelson also recorded a ninth-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 22.26m and
Valerie Brown placed 12th in the event.
Paris Mckinnon collected a third-place finish in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.47m. Mckinnon also added a eighth place finish in the 400m event and a 16th place finish in the 200m sprint.
Sprinter
Abigail Watt tallied multiple top 10 performances as she finished fifth in the 400m run with a time of 59.49. Watt also turned in a 10th place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.95.
Angela Bitok and
Ivyn Jepkosgei placed 11th and 12th respectively in the 1500m event. The 4x100m relay team of
Nyela Sims,
Abigail Watt, Valeria Brown and
Sanya Joseph clocked a third-place finish in the event at a time of 50.84.
The next time the teams take the track will be at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championships in Columbia, S.C. April 23-April 26.
