Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters men's and women's track and field teams had a great showing at the 2025 UNF River City Relays as multiple Tigers bested the NCAA Division II qualifier marks.
On the men's side, sophomore
Samuel Vessat qualified for the 400 meters after placing first in the event with a time of 47.35. Vessat also logged a third-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 21.64.
Freshman jumper
Jahmier Jackson also qualified with a triple jump of 43' 7.25 which was good enough for fourth at the meet.
Ian Kimutai notched a second-place finish in the 5000-meter run in a time of 14:39.41 just seconds off the qualifying mark.
Maquavion Parks recorded a sixth-place finish in the 400 hurdles,
Kody Gibbs clocked a ninth-place finish in the men's 100 meter and the quartet of
Samuel Vessat,
Amari Mckinnon,
Lashawn Powell and
Kody Gibbs finished fourth in the 4x400 meter relay.
Powell and Parks tallied top 20 finishes in the 200-meter event.
Jahmier Jackson and
Amari Mckinnon both turned in top 25 performances in the 400-meter run. Dauntevian Willaims, Jackson and
Taleo Bethel.
In total, the Edward Waters men's track team tied for seventh out of 13 teams on the collegiate side.
For the women, while no one secured aby qualifying marks, the team performed well with several top 10 and top 20 finishes throughout the events.
Trenia Palmer recorded a fifth pace finish in the women's hammer throw as well as a sixth-place finish in the women's shot-put event.
Sanya Jospeh,
Valerie Brown and Di-Raphaelle Nelson all collected sixth, seventh and eight place finishes in the women's javelin.
Angela Bitok and
Ivyn Jepkosgei also collected sixth and seventh place finishes in the 5000-meter event.
Valerie Brown, De'nayizsa Fance,
Sanya Joseph and
Briana Morris placed 10th, 11th, 14th and 15th in the long jump competition.
Taylor Brewer logged an 11th place finish in the 400 meters event while
Sammya Brown and
Tranasia Missick finished 15th and 16th respectively. In the women's 200 meters event,
Abigail Watt,
Paris Mckinnon, De'nayizsa Fance and
Nyela Sims placed 13th, 17th, 18th and 19th for the Lady Tigers.
The men's and women's teams will return to action March 29 for the Savannah State Orange and Blue Invitational hosted by Savannah State at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
