Cumberland, Virginia-Edward Waters Associate Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Ivana Rich will be recognized for her high school athletic prowess as it was announced on Thursday afternoon that she will be an inaugural inductee into the Cumberland High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Rich was a five-sport student athlete during her time at Cumberland, receving multiple awards an honors. On the basketball floor, Rich was a four-year letterwinner for the Dukes. 2006 was a memorable year for her at the team as she helped lead her team to the James River District Championship and a berth in the Virginia High School Athletic Association Region B State Tournament. Rich named a First Team All-James River District selection, the 2006 James River District Player of the Year, First Team All-Region, and Second Team All-State.Â
Rich made her name on the volleyball floor, earning three varsity letters during her career. She took her squad to the 2005 James River District Championship, was a First Team All-James River District selection, a First Team All-State selection, and was named the 2005 James River District Girls Volleyball Player of the Year.
Rich also competed in track & field, where she earned a 2005 All-James River District selection, competing in the shotput, discus, and 4x400m relay team. She also earned letters in competitive cheerleading where she was a First Team All-District selection, and in softball where she was a part of a District Championship.
Following her high school career, Rich signed a volleyball scholarship to Virginia Commonwealth University, where she helped lead the Rams to the 2009 regular season conference championship and set records that still stand to this day.
Rich joins fellow student-athletes Ashley Lawson and Claude Meinhard as well as coaches James Johnson and William Robinson in the CHS Inaugural Hall of Fame Class. The Cumberland High School Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is set for October.
