Albany, Georgia-To say that Edward Waters has made an incredible impression in their first full season of competition as a member of the SIAC, is a major understatement. The Lady Tigers have burst on to the scene with a 39-7 overall mark, a new single-season program record for victories, a 19-3 record against SIAC competition including an 18-1 mark against SIAC East teams, and the program's first SIAC East Division Championship. Now, the Purple & Orange will turn their attentions to a postseason championship as they get set to take part in their first Cricket SIAC Softball Championship. The double-elimination tournament will take place May 2nd-4th at the Gordon Sports Complex in Albany, Georgia.
Edward Waters will be the East Division's #1 seed and will open first round action at 12:30pm against the West's #4 seed, Lane College. The matchup will be the first all-time meeting between the Lady Tigers and Dragons on the softball diamond.
For the Lady Tigers, they have relied heavily on timely hitting, solid defense, and one of the best pitching staffs in the conference. As a team, Edward Waters is batting .295, with 356 hits, 252 runs, and 14 total home runs. The Lady Tigers have also been terrors on the basepaths, with 170 total stolen bases, having only been caught stealing 22 times this season. Leading the way at the plate for Edward Waters is senior first baseman
Tiara Peters who has a .405 batting average in 116 at bats. The Orange Park native has 47 hits, 29 RBI's, 18 runs scored, and one homerun on the year.Â
The EWU pitching staff has been dominant as well this season with a combined 2.39 ERA in 279.0 innings pitched, with an eye-popping 263 strikeouts to their credit. In the circle, junior
Jodasea Peterson leads the way for Edward Waters. The junior college transfer has had an extremely memorable first season at her hometown HBCU, leading the way with a 1.17 ERA inn 113.0 innings pitched. Peterson has a 16-4 record this season and has one save to her credit as well. Peterson has allowed just 20 walks, while striking out a team leading 98 batters. Just behind her is sophomore
Alyssa Charter-Smith. The West Wallsend, New South Wales, Australia native has a 1.27 ERA in 66.0 innings of work, an 8-1 record with two saves, 21 walks, and 91 strikeouts.
