Vela Does It All: Senior Stars at Every Position in Lady Tigers’ Series-Clinching Win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It was a Senior Day performance to remember at Nip Sams Ballpark, and Hailey Vela made sure it would be one talked about for years to come.

The senior shortstop delivered a truly remarkable showing, playing all nine defensive positions as the Edward Waters Lady Tigers completed a dominant three-game SIAC series sweep over Allen with a 13-2 victory on Saturday, April 11.

Vela, a native of Flower Mound, Texas, began the game in her familiar role at shortstop, anchoring the infield in the opening inning. But from there, the day turned historic.

In the second inning, she moved behind the plate to take over catching duties before shifting to second base in the third. The fourth inning saw Vela transition across the diamond to first base, continuing her tour of the field with confidence and versatility.

The moment grew even more special in the circle, as Vela stepped in to pitch during the contest. She logged 0.1 innings of work and recorded a strikeout, adding yet another highlight to her unforgettable afternoon.

Not done yet, Vela returned to the field to cover third base before heading to the outfield, where she completed the rare feat by playing right field, center field, and left field.

Her all-around effort energized the Lady Tigers and added a celebratory spark to the team's final home game of the 2026 season.

Behind Vela's historic performance and a powerful offensive showing, Edward Waters secured the 13-2 victory, putting an emphatic finish on the weekend sweep.

More than just a win, the day served as a tribute to Vela's dedication, leadership, and love for the game—qualities that have defined her career in a Lady Tigers uniform.

On a day meant to honor seniors, Hailey Vela didn't just celebrate her journey—she showcased every part of it.
