Jacksonville, Florida-The 2023 Edward Waters football schedule was officially released on Wednesday morning.
The Tigers, under third year head football coach
Toriano Morgan, will have a 10-game slate in 2023, with eight of those games being against SIAC competition and two non-conference contests.
The 2023 schedule will be slightly different from previous seasons, as the SIAC has gone to a 4-4-2 scheduling model and has eliminated the two-division model. Each team in the league will face four primary opponents each season, in addition allowing for each team to face each conference member home and away in a four-year span. The two teams with the winning percentage in conference play will face each other in the 2023 SIAC Football Championship, presented by Cricket. EWU's four primary opponents will be Allen, Miles, Morehouse, and Savannah State.
Edward Waters will open the 2023 season at home on September 2
nd in the Third Annual "Big Cat Classic" as the Tigers will face Florida HBCU rival Florida Memorial. The following week, the Purple & Orange will welcome the defending champion of the SIAC, Benedict College, to Jacksonville on September 9
th.
The Tigers will hit the road for the first time in 2023 on September 16
th for an SIAC matchup against the Wildcats of Fort Valley State. EWU returns home to the friendly confines of the Nathaniel Glover Community Sports & Music Complex on September 23
rd as they welcome the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College to town. Another road contest awaits the Tigers on September 30
th as they will take the roughly two hour ride up I-95 North to Savannah to battle rival Savannah State.
EWU opens the month October on the 7
th for their annual Homecoming matchup as they will host the Dragons of Lane College. On October 14
th, Edward Waters will travel to Alabama to battle Tuskegee in an SIAC matchup. One week later, on the 21
st, the Tigers will host SIAC foe Albany State, before hitting the road to close out the month on October 28
th in Columbia, S. C. to face SIAC and AME rival Allen University in the Fourth Annual AME Football Classic.
The Tigers will close the 2023 season out and honor their seniors on November 4
th at home against the Dragons of Virginia University of Lynchburg.
