Jacksonville, Fla. - The Edward Waters University football team came up just short on Homecoming and Senior Day, falling 21–17 to visiting Central State University on Saturday afternoon inside Nathaniel Glover Stadium.
In a game defined by defensive grit and missed opportunities, the Tigers struggled to find rhythm offensively, managing 223 total yards, with the bulk of their production coming on the ground.
Running back Johntarrious Thomas led the way with 97 rushing yards, while Brady Tillman added 52 yards on the ground. Through the air, quarterback Noah Bodden endured a challenging outing, finishing 8-for-24 for 74 yards and five interceptions against a tough Central State secondary.
Despite the offensive struggles, the Edward Waters defense once again showed toughness and resilience. Linebacker Trevon French anchored the unit with a game-high 13 total tackles, including two tackles for loss and half a sack. Defensive lineman Jamari Pierre added five tackles, highlighted by three tackles for loss and a sack, while Lemar Harris contributed five tackles and a tackle for loss.
In the secondary, defensive back David Law Mortimer continued his stellar season, recording his team-leading fourth interception of the year.
The Tigers' special teams provided one of the day's biggest highlights, as [Player Name – if applicable] electrified the Homecoming crowd with a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, igniting energy inside Glover Stadium and putting EWU on the scoreboard.
With the loss, Edward Waters moves to 5–4 on the season as they look to regroup and close the regular season on a strong note. The Tigers will wrap up the 2025 campaign next Saturday in the annual AME Classic, facing Allen University. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
