Three Tigers Earn All-SIAC Honors as EWU Closes Historic 2025 Football Season

ATLANTA, Ga. – The postseason recognition continues to roll in for Edward Waters University football, as three Tigers — Johntarrious Thomas, Trevon French, and David Law-Mortimer — have been named to the 2025 All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Team, the league announced on Tuesday.

Leading the trio of honorees is junior running back Johntarrious Thomas, who earned First-Team All-SIAC honors after a record-breaking season out of the backfield. The Gadsden County, Fla., native and team captain powered the Tiger offense with 1,016 rushing yards, the second-highest total in the SIAC and 14th nationally in NCAA Division II. Thomas led the league with an impressive 7.0 yards per carry, ranking 11th in the nation, while tallying nine rushing touchdowns and averaging 101.6 yards per game.

Thomas etched his name into the EWU record books, setting both the modern-day single-season rushing record (1,016 yards) and the single-game rushing record (243 yards) in a standout performance against Benedict College. His explosive play and leadership helped fuel one of the most productive offensive seasons in recent program history.

On the defensive side, junior linebacker Trevon French earned Second-Team All-SIAC recognition after a season defined by consistency and toughness. French led Edward Waters in total tackles with 74, ranking sixth in the conference, while his 50 solo tackles were the fifth-most among SIAC defenders. He also added 10.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups — recording eight games with six or more tackles. French's relentless play made him one of the most dependable defenders in the league week after week.

Rounding out the group is junior defensive back David Law-Mortimer, who also secured a spot on the All-SIAC Second Team. A lockdown presence in the secondary, Law-Mortimer finished tied for the league lead with four interceptions, while adding 32 tackles, six pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. His ability to impact the game in multiple ways made him a cornerstone of the EWU defense throughout the season.

The trio's recognition caps off a historic 2025 campaign for Edward Waters football. The Tigers opened the season 3-0 for the first time since 1964 and closed the year with two more wins than last season, marking another major step forward for the program under first year head coach Brian Jenkins, Sr.
