Box Score Jacksonville, Florida-The Edward Waters men's basketball losing streak unfortunately swelled to eight consecutive games on Monday evening in their 80-73 home loss to Fort Valley State on Monday evening at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
Edward Waters (2-10, 2-7 SIAC)Â quickly fell behind 8-0 to start the contest with 17:36 remaining in the first half. EWU began to get their bearings and came to within a point of the lead at 15-14 with 13:18Â remaining in the half. Six minutes later, the Tigers took their lone lead of the contest thanks to a
Byron Abrams three pointer to give them an 18-17 lead. Fort Valley State (8-8, 6-3 SIAC) took the lead back and grew it to as many as nine points with two minutes remaining. The Wildcats ultimately took a 39-33 lead over Edward Waters at halftime.
FVSU took a double-digit lead at the 18:20 mark of the second half at 43-33 with 18:20 remaining. The deficit swelled to 16 points at 56-40 at the 13:13 mark of the second. The Tigers were able to twice chop the lead down to three points, but could come no closer than that, as the Wildcats took home a seven point victory.
The Wildcats outshot the Tigers 49% to 34.9%, including a 43.8% to 33.3% advantage in three point shooting.
Tavares Oliver, Jr. led EWU on the night with 19 points and eight assists, followed by
Byron Abrams with 15, and
Cahlib Edwards with 13 for the Purple & Orange.
The Tigers will step out of conference play on Tuesday night with a 7:00pm tip-off against Paine College at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
