JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Edward Waters University Men's Basketball will enter the 2026-27 season with expectations of making its presence felt in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, as the Tigers have been selected to finish fifth overall in the SIAC Predicted Order of Finish.
Adding to the preseason recognition, sophomore guard Jayvon Johnson was selected to the Preseason All-SIAC Third Team after emerging as a key contributor for Edward Waters during his freshman campaign.
The Tigers enter their first full season under head coach Todd Day, Sr., who took over the program on an interim basis two games into last season before being named the permanent head coach in April. Edward Waters finished the 2025-26 campaign 15-16 overall and 12-12 in SIAC play.
Johnson will be among the key returning pieces for the Tigers as they look to climb the conference standings in 2026-27. After making an immediate impact during his first collegiate season, the sophomore returns as one of Edward Waters' top returning scorers and the team's leading returning assist producer.
His ability to contribute both as a scorer and facilitator gives the Tigers an experienced presence in the backcourt despite Johnson entering just his second collegiate season. His performance as a freshman earned him recognition from the conference's coaches and sports information directors with a spot on the Preseason All-SIAC Third Team.
Johnson's return will be especially important for an Edward Waters squad looking to build upon last season and establish consistency under Day. With a year of SIAC experience already behind him, Johnson will be counted on to help direct the Tigers' offense while continuing to develop as one of the conference's young guards.
The fifth-place preseason selection gives Edward Waters a starting point heading into a new campaign as the Tigers look to improve upon their 12 conference victories from a season ago and make a push in the SIAC standings.
With Johnson back to help lead the way and Day preparing for his first full season at the helm, Edward Waters will turn its attention toward the beginning of the 2026-27 season and another opportunity to make its mark in SIAC Men's Basketball.
