Mount Vernon, Georgia-It was a solid start to the 2021-22 season for the Edward Waters women's track & field team as the Lady Tigers took home a second place finish at the Barons Indoor/Outdoor Invitational hosted by Brewton-Parker College Saturday at Montgomery County High School.
Edward Waters earned 40 points, just seven points short of host school Brewton-Parker, who took home first place honors with 47 points. Thomas University placed third with 38 team points.
Highlights for the Lady Tigers included Dasia Stevens winning the Women's 60m Hurdles in a time of 9.60s, Janiya Peterson taking first in the Women's 60m at 8.29s and in the Women's 200m (27.21), and Laelani Nesmith placing second in the Women's 400m (1:06.86). The Women's 4x400m relay team of Tiara Taylor, Semaj Johnson, Janiya Peterson, and Briana Morris took home second place honors in the event at 4:37.62.
In field events, Tiara Taylor placed second in the Women's Triple Jump with a leap of 10.48m, but took home top honors in the Women's Long Jump at 4.95m. Caytlin Willis placed second in the Women's High Jump at 1.35m.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action in the new year at the KMS Open on January 23rd, 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama.
