ATLANTA, Ga. — The Edward Waters University women's tennis team turned in a strong showing on the national stage, earning a third-place finish in the NCAA Division II Women's Division at the HBCU National Tennis Championship.
The Lady Tigers collected several impressive individual finishes across singles and doubles competition, highlighted by a pair of flight championships and a consolation title.
Leading the way was Sharon Isabella Calderon Cardenas, who captured first place in Flight B Singles. Cardenas added another championship alongside teammate Sofia Lopez, as the duo combined to claim the Flight B Doubles Championship.
Lopez also enjoyed individual success during the championship, battling her way to the Flight A Consolation Singles title to add another strong result to the Lady Tigers' weekend.
Edward Waters' depth was on display throughout the singles draws. Alexis Dunlap joined Cardenas in Flight B Singles and finished fourth overall, giving EWU two top-four finishers in the flight.
The Lady Tigers also secured a pair of top-four finishes in Flight C Singles. Adassah Prevost led the way with a third-place finish, while teammate K'Sheria Briggins followed closely behind in fourth place.
With strong performances throughout the tournament, Edward Waters finished third overall in the Division II Women's Division, continuing to showcase the growth of the Lady Tigers' tennis program against HBCU competition from across the country.
The championship performance was highlighted by Cardenas' singles title, Lopez's consolation championship and the duo's Flight B doubles crown, while Dunlap, Prevost and Briggins each contributed top-four finishes to help secure EWU's place on the team podium.
The Lady Tigers leave the HBCU National Tennis Championship with hardware in hand and another strong showing for Edward Waters University on the national stage.
