JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Following a dominant 36-20 road victory over Miles College on Saturday, three Edward Waters University football standouts have earned weekly recognition from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
Wide receiver Izaiah Jean-Baptiste was named SIAC Offensive Player of the Week, junior linebacker Trevon French earned SIAC Defensive Player of the Week, and senior quarterback Tavion Faulk was selected as the SIAC Newcomer of the Week following their impressive performances in the Tigers' victory.
Jean-Baptiste delivered a huge performance for the EWU offense, hauling in nine receptions for 144 yards and three touchdowns. The standout receiver consistently created problems for the Miles secondary and served as Faulk's primary big-play threat throughout the contest.
French spearheaded the Tigers' defensive effort with a game-high caliber performance, finishing with 13 total tackles, including seven solo stops. The junior linebacker also recorded two tackles for loss, one sack, one quarterback hurry and a blocked extra point, making his presence felt in nearly every phase of the Miles offensive attack.
Faulk continued his impressive start under center for Edward Waters, completing 18-of-30 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns while throwing just one interception. The senior quarterback also contributed 28 rushing yards and finished the contest with an 112.5 QBR.
Faulk and Jean-Baptiste proved to be a lethal combination through the air, connecting for three of the Tigers' four passing touchdowns as EWU produced 36 points on the road.
The three weekly awards add to the momentum for an Edward Waters squad that entered the season with high expectations and came away from Miles with an important road victory.
Edward Waters will now return to Jacksonville for a rivalry showdown against Savannah State University on Saturday, September 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Nathaniel Glover Stadium.
