JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Edward Waters University Athletics has announced the hiring of Alyssha Floyd as the new Head Cheerleading Coach, bringing an accomplished background as both a coach and athlete to lead the Tigers' spirit program into its next chapter.
A Jacksonville native with more than five years of coaching experience and 14 years of competitive cheerleading experience, Floyd arrives at Edward Waters with a passion for athlete development, competitive excellence, and academic success.
"We are excited to welcome Coach Floyd to the Tiger family," said EWU Athletics officials. "Her experience, energy, and commitment to developing student-athletes make her an outstanding fit for our program and university mission."
Floyd most recently served as the Head Cheer Coach at Sandalwood High School, where she transformed the program both on and off the mat. During her tenure, the team experienced significant growth in athletic performance and academic achievement. Under her leadership, athletes progressed from beginner-level stunting to advanced skills, while the program's overall GPA improved. Several student-athletes also advanced to collegiate cheerleading opportunities.
Her impact at Sandalwood was reflected in the team's accomplishments, earning recognition as FHSAA State Semifinalists and National Qualifiers. Prior to her high school coaching success, Floyd gained valuable experience in the all-star and youth cheerleading ranks, helping athletes develop strong technical fundamentals, confidence, discipline, and leadership skills.
As a competitor, Floyd boasts an impressive résumé that includes four All-Star National Championships, a Summit Top-5 Finalist finish, an NHSCC Finalist appearance, and membership on an FHSAA State Runner-Up squad. Her extensive experience competing at the highest levels of cheerleading provides a unique perspective she now brings to coaching.
A former multi-sport athlete at Trinity Christian Academy, Floyd earned varsity letters in cheerleading, track and field, and basketball before continuing her education at Valdosta State University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a concentration in Exercise Physiology.
Floyd's coaching philosophy centers around three core principles: Effort. Resilience. Coachability. Those values have guided her success throughout her coaching career and will serve as the foundation for the future of Edward Waters Cheerleading.
