JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Edward Waters University is proud to announce that Ashley Conner, Deputy Athletic Director, participated in the NCAA Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute, a highly regarded program dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders in collegiate athletics administration. Since joining Edward Waters in July 2023, Conner has made a significant impact on the university's athletic department. Initially serving as Associate Athletic Director for Student Services and Senior Woman Administrator, she oversaw NCAA compliance, student services, and academic support, ensuring the success and welfare of student-athletes. Her leadership has been instrumental in elevating the department's operations, fostering a supportive environment, and enhancing the university's athletic profile. Recently promoted to Deputy Athletic Director, Conner continues to drive strategic initiatives and champion student-athlete development. Her contributions extend beyond athletics, as she previously served as Executive Director of Student Success and Retention, leading efforts to improve academic integration, student retention, and leadership training for first- and second-year students.

The NCAA Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute is a two-year, cohort-based professional development program designed to empower mid-level minority athletics administrators to excel in their careers. Each year, 18 administrators are selected to participate in a rigorous curriculum that includes in-person sessions, continuing education resources, and a week-long immersive experience focused on strategic planning, behavioral assessment, and leadership skill-building. Participants engage with industry experts on topics such as minority leadership, student-athlete welfare, compliance, fundraising, and human resources, while also taking part in practical exercises like budget management and case studies to refine their problem-solving and communication skills. The program's cohort model fosters deep professional relationships and a lifelong support network, which many alumni cite as transformational for their careers. More than 400 administrators have graduated from the program since its inception in 2002, with over 60% advancing to senior leadership positions in college athletics.

Ashley Conner's selection for the Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute is a testament to her dedication, leadership, and potential to shape the future of collegiate athletics. As she embarks on this journey, Edward Waters University celebrates her achievements and looks forward to the continued positive impact she will bring to the campus and the broader collegiate athletics community.
