Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters baseball team routed Miles 13-3 to collect a 2-1 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAC) home series victory over the Golden Bears.
The bottom of the lineup helped EWU capture the win inside JP Small Memorial Park.
Raul Ramirez,
Jordan Smith, and
Tyler Smith combined for six of the team's 11 hits in the victory. They scored three runs and drove in two.
Edward Waters scored seven runs in the first inning on the way to victory. Â
Torry Jones singled, scoring one run,
Caden Hutchinson doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run,
Jordan Smith singled, scoring one run, and
Dave Mitchum doubled, scoring two runs.
EWU added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Jones grounded out, scoring two runs, and
Misael Ramos singled, scoring one run.
Miles College scored three runs in the top of the fifth on a home run to left field by Kolby King.
Alexander Davila earned the win for EWU. The right-handed pitcher surrendered two hits and three runs over six innings, striking out six and walking two as he improved to 8-1 on the season.
Luis Valero threw two innings of shutout ball for the Tigers in relief. The hurler surrendered one hit, striking out three and walking none.
The Tigers amassed 11 hits in the game. Ramirez, Mitchum,
Tyler Smith, and
Jordan Smith each collected two hits for Edward Waters.
Dannon Smith led the team with three runs batted in. Mitchum and Hutchinson each stole multiple bases for EWU. EWU worked the count all day, accumulating seven walks. The Tigers also stole four bases in the game and were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
