Jacksonville, Fl., -- It came down to the wire on Tuesday at J.P. Smalls Memorial Park, as Edward Waters grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 9-8, over USC-Beaufort, Tuesday afternoon March 4.
With the win, Edward Waters snaps a three-game losing skid to improve to 12-8 on the season with a 8-1 mark on their home diamond.
The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the tenth when
Raul Ramirez singled, scoring one run.
The Tigers collected 14 hits and the Sand Sharks had 11 in the high-scoring affair.
EWU opened the scoring in the first after
Torry Jones homered to left field, scoring two runs. For Jones, it was his team-leading eight home run of the season. Jones is now tied for fourth in Divison II with eight home runs and is second in the nation with 33 RBI.
USCB tied the game up in the top of the third thanks to two singles. The Sand Sharks tied the game at two on a single by Jeremy Brown.
In the top of the fifth, USCB broke up the tie when Terry Dean was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. Then a walk by Sean Mitchell followed to extend the lead to 4-2.
Edward Waters tied the game up in the bottom of the eighth thanks to two singles. The Tigers tied the game at seven on a single by Ramirez.
The Sand Sharks took the lead in the top of the tenth. A passed ball scored one run, to give USCB the edge, 8-7.
EWU took the lead in the bottom of the tenth inning after
Jordan Smith singled to center field, and Ramirez singled, each scoring one run.
Josh Taylor led things off on the mound for the Tigers. The hurler surrendered three hits and two runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking one.

Andres Carracciolo, Jerry Martinez,
Luis Valero, Liam Prepetit,
Elvin Polanco, and
Nikko Bates each threw shutout innings for Edward Waters in relief.
The Tigers piled up 14 hits in the game. Ramirez drove the middle of the lineup, leading Edward Waters with four runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 4-for-6 on the day. Jones and
Hugo Schoening each collected multiple hits for EWU.
Edward Waters will return to action with a road SIAC series against Benedict College. The squads will play a Saturday doubleheader with games scheduled at noon and 3:00 pm before wrapping up the series with a single game Sunday set to start a 1:00 pm. All games will be played at Tiger Field in Columbia, S.C.
