EWU Tigers Baseball Falls at Home to Flagler, 12-11

Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters baseball team dropped their midweek South Regional contest to the visiting Flagler College Saints on Tuesday evening.

EWU's effort to come back from down eight runs in the eighth inning came up just short, as they fell 12-11 to Flagler. EWU closed the gap by scoring on a walk, a single, and a grand slam.

Caden Hutchinson drove in four runners in the loss. The left fielder went 1-5 on the day.

Flagler university got on the board in the top of the first inning after a ground out, and a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

Edward Waters tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to a single by Jordan Smith, and an error.

EWU jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Flagler committed an error, and Erickson Matos laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run.

The Saints flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 8-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a fielder's choice that drove in two.

Flagler university scored four runs in the top of the eighth on a grand slam to right field.

EWU scored seven runs on three hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. Dave Mitchum drew a walk, scoring one run, Raul Ramirez singled, scoring one run, and Hutchinson hit a grand slam to left field.

Andres Carracciolo pitched three innings in relief for EWU. The righty gave up two hits and zero runs while, striking out none and walking none. Nikko Bates took the loss for EWU. The right-handed pitcher went one inning, surrendering five runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one. Alexander Davila began the game for EWU. The right-handed pitcher surrendered one hit and two runs over one inning, striking out none and walking none.

Ramirez led EWU with three hits in five at bats. Hugo Schoening collected two hits for the Tigers in six at bats. Smith stole two bases.
