Savannah, GA., -- The Edward Waters baseball team captured a 2-1 road SIAC East series victory over Savannah State.
EWU opened up the series with a 8-3 victory over SSU.
Savannah State was the first to get on the board in the first when Brevin Smith homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Edward Waters jumped back into the lead in the top of the third inning after
Hugo Schoening doubled down the left field line,
Misael Ramos singled down the left field line, and
Raul Ramirez lined out, each scoring one run.
Kendal Spencer hit a sacrifice fly, which helped SSU tie the game at three in the bottom of the third.
EWU jumped into the lead in the top of the sixth when Ramirez hit a solo home run to left field,
Dave Mitchum hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Schoening singled, scoring two runs.
Anthony Bayyat earned the win for EWU. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and three runs over five and one-third innings, striking out two and walking two. Liam Prepetit threw three and two-thirds innings of zero-run ball for EWU in relief. The pitcher allowed zero hits, striking out six and walking two.
Ramos and Schoening each collected two hits for EWU. Schoening led EWU with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-5 on the day. EWU had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game.
Erickson Matos and Mitchum led the team with two bases on balls each. Ramos, Schoening, and
Caden Hutchinson each stole multiple bases for EWU. EWU stole 10 bases in the game.
EWU followed their series opening win with a 7-4 triumph over Savannah State.
SSU opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth thanks to two singles. Savannah State first got on the board when Farah Castillo singled, scoring one run.
Edward Waters jumped into the lead in the top of the fifth when
Raul Ramirez drew a walk, scoring one run,
Caden Hutchinson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs, and
Erickson Matos singled, scoring one run.
Alexander Davila earned the win for EWU. The pitcher surrendered six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out one and walking two.
Luis Valero appeared in relief for EWU.

Hutchinson went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.
Hugo Schoening went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead EWU in hits. Matos paced EWU with three walks.
Edward Waters suffered it's first loss of the series when they fell to Savannah State 9-7, despite leading by as many as four runs.
Despite the loss, EWU did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Savannah State had nine hits on the way to victory.

Reginald Tuggle homered to left field, which helped Savannah State tie the game at two in the bottom of the first.
EWU jumped back into the lead in the top of the second inning after Savannah State committed an error,

Caden Hutchinson hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Savannah State captured the lead, 9-7, in the bottom of the sixth when Brevin Smith tripled, scoring two runs, and a wild pitch scored one run.
Jeremy Nieves took the loss for EWU. The right-handed pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering three runs on two hits, striking out one and walking two.
Josh Taylor started the game for EWU. The hurler surrendered four hits and three runs over two innings, striking out none and walking one.
Ramos and Schoening each drove in two runs for EWU.
Torry Jones collected two hits for EWU in two at bats.
Chase Morris and Mitchum each stole multiple bases for EWU.
