THOMASVILLE, GA., -- The Edward Waters Tigers baseball team fell, 9-3 to Thomas University Nighthawks on Tuesday evening inside Varnedoe Stadium. EWU moved to 2-2 on the season after the loss despite out-hitting the Night Hawks five to four.
Dannon Smith led the Tigers with two hits.
A sacrifice bunt by Smith put Edward Waters on the board in the top of the third.
The Nighthawks flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on one hit to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to left field by Thomas University that drove in four runs.
Nikko Bates took the loss for EWU. The hurler went one inning, giving up five runs on one hit, striking out one and walking four.
Cason Shurling started the game for the Tigers and gave up zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out one and walking none.
William Valenti tossed just over one inning and racked up three strikeouts.
Jeremyah Martinez also notched two strikeouts in his only inning of action.

Hugo Schoening each drove in one run for Edward Waters.
The Tigers road trip will continue as they travel down I-95 for a three-game Big Cat Classic Series against Florida Memorial Friday and Saturday February 7th and 8th. The games will be held at the Harry T. Moore Baseball Field in Miami Gardens.
