Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters baseball team completed the three-game series sweep over the Kentucky State Thorobreds.
In the first game of the series,
Hugo Schoening collected three hits in three at bats, as Edward Waters defeated Kentucky State, 10-5 on Friday. Schoening singled in the fifth inning, singled in the eighth inning, and singled in the fourth inning.
A sacrifice fly by
Misael Ramos put Edward Waters on the board in the bottom of the first.
KSU captured the lead, 4-1, in the top of the third after Parker White doubled to right field, Bradley Dossett grounded out, Gavyn Minyard doubled to left field, and EWU committed an error, each scoring one run.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Edward Waters went back into the lead after Schoening singled to right field,
Erickson Matos was struck by a pitch,
Chase Morris walked,
Dave Mitchum singled to right field,
Dannon Smith hit a sacrifice fly, and Kentucky State committed an error, each scoring one run.
Anthony Bayyat earned the win for Edward Waters. The starter gave up four hits and five runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Natanael Ocasio took the loss for KSU. The righty went four innings, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits, striking out three and walking four.
Jeremy Nieves pitched three innings of shutout ball for Edward Waters in relief. The pitcher gave up two hits, striking out two and walking one.
EWU collected nine hits in the game. Matos, Smith, and Schoening each drove in two runs for Edward Waters. Mitchum stole two bases as the Tigers swiped four bases in the game.Â
In the doubleheader finale, Edward Waters  trailed by as many as four, but came back to top Kentucky State, 7-6.
KSU got on the board in the top of the first inning after Kendall Garland drew a walk, scoring one run, Andrew Smith hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Brady Wooldridge singled, scoring two runs.
EWU jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after
Chase Morris singled to right field,
Dave Mitchum walked, and
Dannon Smith singled to right field, each scoring one run.OnÂ
Luis Valero earned the win for the Tigers. The right-handed pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out five and walking one. Ashton Renfro took the loss for Kentucky State. The reliever went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering three runs on one hit, striking out none and walking two.
Andres Carracciolo began the game for Edward Waters. The pitcher allowed two hits and four runs over one inning, striking out two and walking three. Bradley Dossett opened the game for Kentucky State. The hurler surrendered two hits and four runs (two earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking four.
Cameron Chastain collected the save.Â
Caden Hutchinson drove the middle of the lineup, leading EWU with two runs batted in.
Chase Morris, the number nine hitter, led Edward Waters with two hits in four at bats. The Tigers ran wild on the base paths, amassing three stolen bases for the game. EWU didn't commit a single error in the field.
On a morning when the 2024 SIAC Championship Team was honored with a pregame ring ceremony, the Tigers wrapped up their three game series over the Thorobreds with a 10-1 victory.Â

Zion Lewis hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the seventh for the KSU.
Alexander Davila earned the win for Edward Waters. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out three and walking four. Somer Cedeno took the loss for Kentucky State University. The righty went four innings, giving up five runs on one hit, striking out one and walking five.
Cason Shurling and
Jeremyah Martinez each threw shutout innings for Edward Waters in relief.
Medina and
Hugo Schoening were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Tigers.
Dannon Smith led Edward Waters with two hits in two at bats.
Torry Jones paced Edward Waters with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Smith and Hutchinson each stole multiple bases for EWU as the team collected six stolen bases for the game. EWU turned two double plays in the game and didn't commit a single error in the field.
