Jacksonville, Fla. — Edward Waters University senior outside hitter Naomy Vergez has been selected as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the Year, becoming the first Lady Tiger in modern program history to earn the league's top individual honor.
A native of La Romana, Dominican Republic, Vergez capped off her remarkable EWU career with one of the most dominant seasons in the conference. She helped guide the Lady Tigers to a 10–4 overall record and a 10–9 mark in SIAC play, a campaign highlighted by five straight 3–0 shutout victories over conference opponents as the team surged late in the season.
Vergez delivered outstanding production on both sides of the ball throughout the year. She finished the season with 461 kills, 262 digs, 35 service aces, 11 double-doubles, 515.5 total points, and two SIAC Player of the Week honors.
A consistent offensive force and defensive leader, Vergez showcased her versatility and competitive edge each night, solidifying her place as one of the most impactful players in the SIAC.
This milestone season also punctuates a historic Edward Waters career. Vergez departs EWU having surpassed 1,000 career kills, 700 career digs, 100 service aces and nearly 1,500 total points.
Her accomplishments mark her as one of the most decorated players to ever wear a Lady Tigers uniform, leaving a legacy of excellence, leadership, and high-level performance.
