JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Edward Waters University women's volleyball team opened its home portion of the 2026 schedule in impressive fashion Saturday afternoon, sweeping Agnes Scott College 3-0 inside the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
The Lady Tigers used a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive effort to secure the straight-set victory, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-5.
Edward Waters controlled the match from the opening serve, jumping out to an early advantage in the first set before closing out the frame 25-16. The Lady Tigers continued to dictate the pace in the second set, pulling away for a 25-20 victory before completing the sweep with a 25-5 third-set triumph.
Naraiya Thompson continued to make an impact for the Lady Tigers, contributing 21 assists, six digs and three aces, while Ayanna Blocker added 13 digs and two aces.
The Lady Tigers also received strong contributions from Heylianis Aquino, who recorded eight digs, five kills and three aces, while Zakiyyah Abdul added six kills and Norah Laurore finished with seven kills and five digs.
Defensively, Edward Waters kept Agnes Scott under constant pressure, limiting the Scotties to just 14 total kills while the Lady Tigers registered 33. EWU also recorded 14 service aces and 3 total blocks.
The victory gives Edward Waters momentum heading into its next stretch of competition as the Lady Tigers prepare to hit the road for the first of two SIAC Crossovers.
Edward Waters will travel to Albany, Georgia, where the Lady Tigers are scheduled to face Central State, Spring Hill, Miles and Lane during the upcoming conference crossover.
The SIAC Crossover will provide Edward Waters with an opportunity to test itself against conference competition while continuing to build chemistry and momentum early in the 2026 season.
