Edward Waters Enters SIAC Tournament As #1 Seed

Fort Valley, Georgia-The Edward Waters men's volleyball program has had an historic 2023 season. The Tigers finished the year with a program best record of 14-4 and went a perfect 10-0 in the SIAC, which gave them their second consecutive SIAC Men's Volleyball Regular Season Championship. EWU now has their eyes firmly squared on the SIAC Tournament Championship as they get set to participate in the 2023 SIAC Men's Volleyball Championship presented by Cricket and hosted by Fort Valley State University.

The Tigers closed their inaugural season in 2022 with a bad taste in their mouths falling in the first SIAC Men's Volleyball Championship to defending champion Central State in a five-set heartbreaker in the championship game. EWU used that disappointment from last season to dominate in every facet of the game which has carried them to dominance in 2023. Over the regular season against conference competition, EWU dropped just three of the 33 sets played. Edward Waters leads the conference in hitting percentage (.280), opponent hitting percentage (.140), assists per set (11.48), and kills (12.34). Additionally, the Tigers rank second in digs (10.52), third in service aces per set (1.62), and fourth in blocks per set (1.65).

First year head coach Lauren Ford spearheaded the Tigers' charge this season and for her efforts, she was selected as the 2023 SIAC Men's Volleyball Coach of the Year. Sophomore Setter Kenyon Haynes was selected as the Setter of the Year and First Team All-SIAC. Sophomore Middle Joelvi Jimenez was also named First Team All-Conference, while Sophomore Outside Hitter Kaelen Ingram and Redshirt Freshman Outside Hitter Bryan Pepen received Second Team honors.

Edward Waters will receive a first round bye in the single elimination tournament and will open play on Thursday, April 20th at 4:00pm as the top seeded Tigers will face the winner of the earlier matchup between #4 seed and host school Fort Valley State and #5 Kentucky State. #2 seed Central State received the other first round bye and will face the winner of #3 seed Benedict and #6 seed Morehouse. The championship game will take place on Friday, April 22nd at 1:00pm.
