Box Score Jacksonville, Florida-Edward Waters was able to get back into the win column on Monday evening with a three set sweep of Thomas More University in the first ever meeting between the two squads at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.
After opening the first set tied at 8-8, Edward Waters (6-2, 4-0 SIAC) rode the momentum of a 7-2 run to lead 15-10. The Saints (9-7) later came within two points of the lead at 18-16, but again Edward Waters held them off to close the match on a 7-3 run to close the set and lead 1-0.
Set #2 was another close set to start at 7-7. EWU then went on a 4-0 run to push the lead to 11-7. Thomas More responded with a 3-0 run of their own, coming with in one point at 11-10, but the Purple & Orange again exploded with a 10-3 run to give the Tigers all the momentum needed to close out the set and lead 2-0.
Thomas More made things interesting in the third set, leading by five at 15-11. The Tigers clawed their way back into the set, squaring things up at 19-19, then a 4-0 run from the Tigers brought them to within two points of winning the wet an the match. The Tigers were able to close things out and earn an emphatic 3-0 sweep of TMU.
Bryan Pepen turned in a match high 14 kills,
Kaelen Ingram had six kills, three aces, and eight digs, Dillon Tayler finished with three blocks, while
Kenyon Haynes dished out 15 assists.
Edward Waters will next begin a four-game road trip starting next Wednesday in Gaffney, South Carolina against the Saints of Limestone University with first serve set for 7:00pm.
