Jacksonville, Florida-Dodging raindrops throughout the day, Edward Waters was able to get both contests of their doubleheader against former Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe, Claflin, completed on Friday afternoon at Henry L. Aaron Field at James P. Small Park. The Tigers were able to get back in the win column in a big way, taking both contests 10-3 and 5-2, to get back over the .500 mark in the young 2023 season.
In Game One, Edward Waters got the job done both offensively and defensively. The Tigers racked up 14 hits on the contest, scoring a season high 10 runs. Sophomore 1B
Hugo Schoening went a perfect 4-for-4 in the matchup, with three doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Freshman 3B
Dwanye Maduro was just behind, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. On the mound, senior
Alexander Davila was dominant, going 6.0 innings, allowing just two earned runs, and struck out seven Panthers in the matchup.
Game Two also saw another dominant pitching performance, this time from senior
Will Valenti, who posted a season high 10 strikeouts, earning his first victory on the mound this season. Freshman RF
Jacob Rowe, led the EWU offensive efforts, going 3-for-4 with a run scored, while both junior CF
Daiton Pass, and graduate SS
Payton Shubert each went 2-for-4 for Edward Waters.
The Tigers will return to action on Wednesday evening for a 5:00pm home midweek matchup against Thomas University.
