Jacksonville, Florida-Charged with ending their three-tame losing skid and trying to gain some much needed positive momentum going into the upcoming Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament, the Edward Waters women's basketball squad welcomed the Lady Panthers of Clark Atlanta to the James Weldon Johnson Auxiliary Gymnasium. A motivated group of Lady Tigers exorcised the demons of their past few games, bringing a halt to the skid, beating CAU, 79-55.
Edward Waters (14-11) jumped out of the gate on a 7-0 run to start the first quarter. Clark Atlanta (5-15) fired back with a run of their own an took their first lead of the contest at the 4:56 mark of fhe first quarter, taking a 12-11 lead. The Lady Tigers once again seized control of the contest after that and took a 21-18 lead at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter was completely owned by the Purple & Orange, outscoring the Lady Panthers 18-7, forced 10 turnovers in the quarter, and outshot CAU 62% to 46% to lead 39-25 at halftime.
Edward Waters' lead grew to as much as 23 points at the 7:29 mark of the third quarter. Clark Atlanta could only get as close as 15 points, ultimately trailing 59-41 at the end of the quarter.
The fourth quarter was a mere formaility formality for the Lady Tigers, as they put the finishing touches on a remarkable performance on their home floor and thoroughly enjoyed a 24-point victory.
Graduate guard/forward La'Quanza Glover came withing four steals and four assists of achieving the program's first quadruple double. Instead, she had to settle for her 64th career double-double, finishing with 16 points, 16 rebounds, six steals, and six assists. Senior forward Molly Ragle finished with 14, followed by junior guard/forward Lee'Sha Henry with a double-double effort of 13 points and 10 rebounds, and senior guard Teiyahna Hutchinson with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Lady Tigers will hit the road for the final time in the regular season on Tuesday, February 15th as they head to Columbia, South Carolina to face the Lady Yellow Jackets of Allen University with tip-off set for 5:30pm.
