JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Edward Waters University women's soccer team delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, earning a convincing 6-0 victory over Allen University at Nathaniel Glover Community Field & Stadium.
The shutout victory improved the Lady Tigers to 3-1 on the season as Edward Waters controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting Allen 12-3 and placing eight shots on goal.
EWU wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Woniya Sandoval found the back of the net just 3:55 into the match to give the Lady Tigers an early 1-0 advantage. Maya Carmona added to the lead in the 34th minute, sending Edward Waters into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Tigers came out of the halftime break with an offensive explosion, scoring three goals in less than three minutes to put the match out of reach.
Ronsaifia Beauplan opened the second-half scoring in the 52nd minute off an assist from Carmona before Ellen Shurman extended the lead just moments later with a goal assisted by Alyssa Wright. Wright then added a goal of her own in the 55th minute off an assist from Shurman as the Lady Tigers quickly built a commanding 5-0 advantage.
Edward Waters continued to apply pressure throughout the match, and Maliya Gangadin-Small capped the scoring in the 81st minute with her first goal of the afternoon to secure the 6-0 victory.
Defensively, the Lady Tigers were equally dominant, holding Allen without a single shot in the second half of action. Goalkeepers Solange Brown and Gabrielle Hatch combined to preserve the clean sheet.
With the victory, Edward Waters moves to 3-1 overall and will now turn its attention to its next challenge.
The Lady Tigers will return to action on Monday, September 7, when they take on Palm Beach Atlantic. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
