JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Edward Waters University Women's Soccer continued its impressive play at home Thursday afternoon, using a balanced offensive attack to roll past Bob Jones University, 5-1, at Nathaniel Glover Community Field & Stadium.
The victory improved the Lady Tigers to 5-3-1 overall, with five different players finding the back of the net. Edward Waters scored twice in the opening half before breaking the match open with three goals over a 10-minute span in the second half.
Edward Waters wasted almost no time getting on the scoreboard. Just 2:46 into the match, Ramiyah Clay struck for the opening goal off an assist from Dadie Cherenfant, putting the Lady Tigers ahead 1-0.
EWU continued to create opportunities throughout the opening period, but Bob Jones eventually found an equalizer in the 40th minute when Lily Davis scored off an assist from Mady Pfaffenroth.
The tie lasted just over two minutes.
In the 42nd minute, substitute Bianca Beauplan made an immediate impact. Beauplan found the back of the net with assists credited to Rose-Bertude Rosinvil and Cherenfant, restoring the Lady Tigers' advantage at 2-1 heading into halftime.
Edward Waters took complete control after the break.
Rosinvil began the second-half surge in the 53rd minute, scoring an unassisted goal to extend the lead to 3-1. Just over six minutes later, Ellie Shurman joined the scoring column, finishing a feed from Joselyn Casanova in the 60th minute to give EWU a commanding 4-1 advantage.
The Lady Tigers struck once more just over three minutes later. In the 63rd minute, Francesca Timenu converted off an assist from Rosinvil, completing a stretch of three EWU goals in less than 10 minutes and pushing the lead to its final margin of 5-1.
Rosinvil was at the center of the Lady Tigers' offensive success, finishing with one goal and two assists. Cherenfant also played a major role in creating scoring opportunities, recording two assists, while Clay, Beauplan, Shurman and Timenu each scored once. Casanova added an assist as Edward Waters recorded an assist on four of its five goals.
The Lady Tigers were efficient with their opportunities, putting eight of their nine shots on goal and converting five of those attempts. Beauplan led EWU with two shots, both on target, while Daniela Iduriaga also attempted two shots.
On the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Gabrielle Hatch played all 90 minutes and turned away four of Bob Jones' five shots on goal, allowing just the lone first-half score. After Bob Jones pulled even late in the opening period, Hatch and the EWU defense kept the Bruins off the scoreboard for the entire second half.
The victory continued Edward Waters' outstanding form at Nathaniel Glover Community Field & Stadium. The Lady Tigers are now unbeaten at home this season, having earned victories over Allen, Georgia Southwestern State and Bob Jones on their home pitch.
Edward Waters will now hit the road for its next contest, traveling to Columbia, South Carolina, for a rematch with Allen University on Thursday, October 1.
