MOBILE, Ala. — The Edward Waters University women's soccer team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion Thursday evening, earning a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Spring Hill College at Library Field.
The Lady Tigers controlled the offensive pressure throughout the contest, finishing with 10 total shots compared to just five from the Badgers. After a scoreless opening half, Edward Waters broke through in the 66th minute when Ellie Shurman found the back of the net to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 advantage.
Edward Waters continued to apply pressure as the match progressed, eventually doubling its lead in the 78th minute. Rose Bertude-Rosinvil scored the second goal of the evening off an assist from Kemari Simons, giving the Lady Tigers a 2-0 cushion.
The Edward Waters defense remained stout down the stretch, preserving the shutout and securing the season-opening victory. Goalkeeper Solange Brown recorded the lone save for the Lady Tigers as EWU held Spring Hill off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes.
With the victory, Edward Waters opens the 2026 campaign with a 1-0 record and a clean sheet.
The Lady Tigers will look to make it two straight wins when they return to action on Saturday, August 29, traveling to face Tuskegee University at Cleve L. Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. local time.
