JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Edward Waters University Baseball has announced the addition of Wilmer Cuevas to the Tigers' coaching staff as an assistant coach, bringing valuable collegiate baseball experience and a championship pedigree to the Purple and Orange.
Cuevas joins the Edward Waters program following a collegiate playing career that included stops at the College of Central Florida, Fayetteville Technical Community College, and NCAA Division I Alabama A&M University.
His collegiate journey began at the College of Central Florida, where he was a member of the Patriots' 2023 NJCAA Division I National Championship team. The championship experience provided Cuevas with firsthand exposure to the preparation, discipline, and competitive standards necessary to succeed at the national level.
Following his time at Central Florida, Cuevas continued his playing career at Fayetteville Technical Community College, further developing his skills and gaining valuable experience at the junior college level.
He eventually made the transition to NCAA Division I competition at Alabama A&M University, where he spent two seasons competing for the Bulldogs. Throughout his junior college and Division I career, Cuevas established himself as a consistent offensive contributor, finishing with a .295 batting average.
Having competed at multiple levels of collegiate baseball, Cuevas brings a diverse playing background and an understanding of the development required for student-athletes to succeed in competitive college baseball environments.
His experience as part of a national championship program, combined with his time competing at the Division I level, will provide an additional perspective to the Edward Waters coaching staff as the Tigers continue building upon their recent success.
Cuevas joins an Edward Waters baseball program coming off a historic 2026 campaign that featured a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Tournament Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division II South Regional.
The Tigers captured the conference tournament title with an unbeaten postseason run, earning the program an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship.
With Cuevas joining the staff, Edward Waters looks to continue strengthening its player development efforts, maintaining a competitive culture, and preparing its student-athletes for success both on and off the diamond.
His addition represents another step forward for the Tigers as they prepare for the upcoming 2027 baseball season and look to build on the program's championship momentum.
