Edward Waters Lady Tigers Set to Compete in Inaugural HBCU Hoops Invitational

Jacksonville, Fla. — Get ready, Tiger Nation! The Edward Waters University Lady Tigers Women's Basketball Team is heading to Orlando to make history at the inaugural HBCU Hoops Invitational, set for December 4–7, 2025, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

This premier showcase will feature eight of the nation's most storied HBCU programs battling it out on one stage, celebrating basketball, culture, and community. The participating schools include Bethune-Cookman, Cheyney State, Edward Waters, Hampton, Florida A&M, Florida Memorial, Barber-Scotia College, and Tuskegee University.

The Lady Tigers will open their tournament run with an electrifying showdown against Hampton University on December 5. Depending on results, Edward Waters will face either Cheyney State or Bethune-Cookman on December 7.

Head Coach Eric Jackson, Jr. expressed his excitement about the opportunity:

"This is a monumental moment for our program and for HBCU women's basketball," Jackson said. "To compete on such a big stage, alongside so many outstanding teams — especially with all four Florida HBCUs represented — is truly special. We can't wait to showcase Edward Waters basketball and our amazing student-athletes."

The HBCU Hoops Invitational is more than just a basketball tournament — it's a celebration of unity, camaraderie, and tradition. With eight programs coming together, fans will experience the richness of HBCU culture through elite-level basketball, school pride, and family-friendly fun.

By highlighting all four Florida HBCUs — Edward Waters, Florida A&M, Florida Memorial, and Bethune-Cookman — the Invitational underscores the strength, talent, and legacy of HBCU athletics in the Sunshine State.
