Macon, GA., -- The Edward Waters baseball team opened the 2025 SICA Championships with an impressive 10-1 victory over Tuskegee on Thursday afternoon.

EWU got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Dannon Smith singled, scoring two runs, Tyler Smith doubled, scoring two runs, and Chase Morris hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Edward Waters added one run in the third. Raul Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly, making the score 6-0.

Anthony Bayyat earned the win for the EWU Tigers. The pitcher allowed five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out three and walking three. Josh Taylor and Aiden Sowers each threw shutout innings for EWU in relief.

Edward Waters piled up nine hits in the game. D. Smith led EWU with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The infielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Torry Jones, Misael Ramos, and T. Smith each collected two hits for the Tigers. EWU had a strong eye at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game. Ramos, Ramirez, and Caden Hutchinson led the team with two free passes each. D. Smith stole two bases as Edward Waters ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game. Defensively, EWU turned two double plays in the game.

The No. 2 EWU Tigers will advance to the semifinals of the 2025 SIAC Baseball Championships where they will face rival No. 3 Savannah State. Opening pitch will be May 2 at 6 PM inside Luther Williams Field in Macon, GA.
