Lady Tigers Softball Sweeps Series Over Allen with Dominate 25-0 Shutout Victory

Columbia, S.C., -- The Edward Waters softball team cruised to a dominate 25-0 victory over Allen University to secure the 3-0 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) East Division sweep on Saturday. 

EWU jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Victoria Miterko was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Dazha Durand singled, scoring two runs, and Hailey Vela singled, scoring two runs.

Edward Waters scored 11 runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. Kylah Gardner singled, scoring two runs, Durand grounded out, scoring one run, Vela singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Laura Scott drew a walk, scoring one run, Gardner doubled, scoring two runs, Brooke Rice drew a walk, scoring one run, Durand was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Calyn Rounsaville drew a walk, scoring one run.

A walk by Miterko extended the Lady Tigers lead to 17-0 in the top of the third inning.

EWU scored seven runs on six hits in the top of the fourth inning. An error scored two runs, Joy Duncan singled, scoring one run, Gardner singled, scoring one run, Miterko singled, scoring one run, and Rounsaville singled, scoring two runs.

Shai-Ann Currie started in the circle for EWU. The hurler allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking none.

Edward Waters accumulated 15 hits in the game. Gardner led the Lady Tigers with three hits in five at bats. Jodee Matos, Rounsaville, Vela, and Duncan each collected multiple hits for EWU. Edward Waters had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 13 walks for the game. Rice and Scott led the team with three free passes each. Jamiah Holmes stole two bases as EWU stole six bases in the game. The Lady Tigers defense was flawless as EWU didn't commit a single error in the field.
