EWU Baseball's 16 Hits Not Enough in 14-11 Loss to USCB

Beaufort, S.C., -- The Edward Waters baseball team found themselves on the losing end of a midweek match up against USC-Beaufort on Tuesday afternoon.

Efrain Pantoja drove in four runs on three hits, but EWU fell to USCB 14-11.

Despite the loss, EWU did collect 16 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, USCB had 17 hits on the way to victory.

Edward Waters opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. The Tigers first got on the board when Pantoja singled, scoring one run.

The Sand Sharks took the lead, 5-2, in the bottom of the first thanks to doubles by Jeremy Brown, Nikko Andre, and Ryan Stansell.

EWU tied the game up in the top of the second thanks to two doubles. Edward Waters then tied the game at five on a double by Pantoja.

USCB took the lead, 9-5, in the bottom of the third thanks to doubles by Jon Davis, and Joe Turner.

EWU flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring six runs on five hits to take the lead, 11-9. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Michael Thomas that drove in three.

The Tigers committed an error, which helped the Sand Sharks tie the game at 11 in the bottom of the fourth.

A hit by a pitch gave USCB the lead, 12-11, in the bottom of the sixth.

Jeremyah Martinez took the loss for EWU. The righty went one inning, surrendering one run (zero earned) on zero hits, striking out none and walking one. Andres Carracciolo began the game for EWU. The righty surrendered four hits and five runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking two.

The Tigers amassed 16 hits in the game. Torry Jones, Erickson Matos, and Pantoja each collected three hits for EWU. Thomas collected two hits for EWU in five at bats.
