Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters softball team was crowned 2025 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Eastern Division Champions after sweeping their three-game home series over Savannah State.
The Lady Tigers are now at the top spot in the East Division with an 18-6 SIAC record and a 26-22 record overall.
In the opening game of the series,
Keivana Durand was dominant in the circle, as the starting pitcher hurled a 12 strikeout, no-hitter in in EWU's 9-0 victory over Savannah State. Durand allowed zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking one.
Hailey Vela,
Dazha Durand, and
Jamiah Holmes at the bottom of the Lady Tigers lineup combined for five of the team's 10 hits in their victory. They scored four runs and drove in three.
A double by
Brooke Rice put Edward Waters on the board in the bottom of the first.
EWU scored eight runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Joy Duncan singled, scoring two runs,
Kylah Gardner doubled, scoring one run,
Laura Scott scored after tagging up, Durand singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Holmes doubled, scoring two runs.
Nia Fisher took the loss for Savannah State. The pitcher went four innings, giving up nine runs (six earned) on 10 hits, striking out two and walking five.
Gardner, D. Durand, and Holmes each collected two hits for Edward Waters. Duncan and Holmes each drove in two runs for EWU. Scott paced the Lady Tigers with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. Duncan stole two bases as EWU stole four bases total in the game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, EWU came out victorious against Savannah State 6-3.
Edward Waters was the first to get on the board in the first when
Brooke Rice grounded out, scoring one run.
Savannah State took the lead in the top of the third. Ambria Guye singled, scoring two runs, to give Savannah State the upper hand, 2-1.
The Lady Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a tag up by
Olivia Friedel, and a single by Rice.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, EWU went back into the lead after
Kylah Gardner singled to center field, and
Calyn Rounsaville doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
Riley Kapparis earned the win for Edward Waters. The hurler allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking one.
Shai-Ann Currie stepped in the circle first for the Lady Tigers. The pitcher surrendered eight hits and three runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking none.
Rice drove the middle of the lineup, leading EWU with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Gardner,
Laura Scott, and
Jamiah Holmes each collected two hits for the Lady Tigers. EWU stole three bases in the game.
In the final game of the season, EWU snatched the lead late in their 5-4 victory over Savannah State on Senior Day. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the sixth when
Hailey Vela singled, scoring one run.
Despite falling down by four runs in the second inning, Savannah State tried to fight back. SSU closed the gap by scoring on three singles.
The Lady Tigers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. EWU first got on the board when
Brooke Rice singled, scoring one run.
Edward Waters added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after
Jamiah Holmes hit a sacrifice fly, and each scoring one run.
Kennedy Alsbrook singled down the left field line, which helped Savannah State tie the game at four in the top of the sixth.
Keivana Durand earned the win for EWU. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking none and improved her record to 10-7 on the year.
Savannah LePain and
Shai-Ann Currie each appeared in relief for EWU.

Calyn Rounsaville were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Lady Tigers. LePain, Rice, Vela, and Holmes each drove in one run for EWU.
Laura Scott stole two bases as EWU ran wild on the base paths, accumulating five stolen bases for the game.
The Lady Tigers will wrap up their 2025 regular season with a road doubleheader against crosstown foe Trinity Baptist on Monday, April 14 at 4 & 6 p.m.
