EWU Lady Tigers Softball Split Series Against Trinity Baptist in Season Finale

Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters softball team split their doubleheader Monday against crosstown for Trinity Baptist College on Monday evening, April 14. 

In the opening game of the day, EWU fell 4-2 to TBC despite out-hitting them nine to six. Kylah Gardner, Joy Duncan, and Victoria Miterko each collected two hits for Edward Waters. 

The Lady Tigers got on the board in the first inning after Brooke Rice singled, scoring one run.

The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the third. Jessica Johnson singled, scoring two runs, to give Trinity Baptist College the edge, 2-1.

Piper Young earned the win for Trinity Baptist. The starting pitcher allowed eight hits and one run over seven innings, striking out four and walking three. Riley Kapparis took the loss for EWU. The starting pitcher went six innings, surrendering four runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out seven and walking two.

Rice and Miterko each drove in one run for the Lady Tigers. EWU turned one double play in the game.

In the doubleheader finale, Riley Kapparis collected three hits in five at bats, as Edward Waters defeated Trinity Baptist, 16-0. Kapparis hit a solo home run to left field in the second inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Olivia Friedel hit a solo home run to center field, Victoria Miterko drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Montana Hunt drew a walk, scoring one run, Miterko scored after tagging up, and Joy Duncan doubled, scoring two runs.

EWU added three more runs in the top of the second inning on four hits. Kapparis hit a solo home run to left field, and Jodee Matos doubled, scoring two runs.

A double by Hunt, and an error helped Edward Waters extend their early lead in the third.

Shai-Ann Currie earned the win for EWU. The pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out three and walking one.

The Lady Tigers collected 15 hits in the game. Hunt led EWU with five runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 3-for-3 on the day. Hunt, Kylah Gardner, and Kapparis each collected three hits for Edward Waters. Friedel collected two hits in five at bats. EWU had patience at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Hailey Vela, Duncan, and Miterko led the team with two free passes each.
