Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters softball team dropped both ends of their midweek twinbill to the visiting Thomas University Nighthawks.
Even though
Keivana Durand struck out 10 batters, EWU still fell to Thomas 0-4. Durand surrendered seven hits and four runs over seven innings while walking four.
The Night Hawks jumped out to the lead in the top of the sixth inning after Usserg hit a solo home run to right field, Eason singled, scoring one run, and Hodges doubled, scoring two runs.
Kylah Gardner went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead EWU in hits.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Thomas defeated Edward Waters 12-1 thanks in part to seven runs in the fifth inning.
The Night Hawks  got on the board in the top of the first inning after Beney hit a sacrifice fly, and Usserg singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.
Thomas added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Hodges singled to the left side of the infield, and Adams grounded out, each scoring one run.
Thomas scored seven runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning. Nunez was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Hicus drew a walk, scoring one run, Eason singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run.
Riley Kapparis took the loss for the Lady Tigers. The starting pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, giving up 12 runs (six earned) on 10 hits, striking out none and walking three.
Kylah Gardner and Joy Duncan each collected one hit for EWU.
