Albany, GA., -- The Edward Waters softball team completed their three game SIAC East road series against Albany State by going 1-2.
The Lady Tigers opened the series with a 6-3 victory propelled by
Keivana Durand, as the hurler rang up 11 strikeouts Durand surrendered four hits and three runs over seven innings while walking one as she surpassed over 100 strikeouts on the season.
EWU opened the scoring in the first after
Brooke Rice hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
A single by
Kylah Gardner, a double by Rice, and a sacrifice fly by
Hailey Vela helped Edward Waters extend their early lead in the third.
EWU collected 11 hits in the game. Rice provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Lady Tigers with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.
Laura Scott led EWU with three hits in four at bats. Gardner and
Dazha Durand each collected multiple hits for Edward Waters.
In the second game of the series, EWU had trouble keeping up with Albany State Softball in an 8-0 loss.
The Golden Rams got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after a sacrifice bunt and two singles down the left field line, each scoring one run.
Shai-Ann Currie took the loss for EWU. The pitcher went four innings, surrendering four runs on nine hits, striking out none and walking none.
Kylah Gardner went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Tigers in hits.
In the series finale, a walk-off left EWU Â on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat to ASU. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the seventh when Avrey Fisher was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
Both teams were strong in the circle. Albany State Softball pitchers struck out three, while EWU sat down eight.
An error put Albany State on the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Calyn Rounsaville singled down the left field line, which helped Edward Waters tie the game at one in the top of the seventh.
Keivana Durand took the loss for the Lady Tigers. The hurler went six and one-third innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out eight and walking six.
